Path of Exile Item Upgrading
The best method to improve your gear in Path of Exile is through item upgrades. This lets you upgrade your gear without having depend on costly drops or trades. This article will show you how to upgrade your items efficiently.
Upgrades to equipment give an additional bonus to the item's stats. The bonus is based on the rarity and level of the upgrade component.
Components
Upgrade components can make your armour and weapons stronger. You can get them from fighting off enemies, locating them in spheres of items or purchasing them from karma sellers. You can also salvage them from equipment that has the components or by using salvage kits of high-end quality, such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components aren't destroyed by removing them from the item.
Upgrade components are typically used to improve an item but they can also be used for other purposes. They can be stacked in order to boost the level or the amount of experience gained by upgrading equipment or weapons. They can also be made to offer additional benefits. A glyph that is crafted can boost the upgrade chances of its target, while an upgrade boosts the attack or defense capabilities of the weapon.
Selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will allow you to bind it to an item. This will show the list of upgrade components that the item can be upgraded to. Alternatively, you can make use of the workbench to choose an upgrade template. In either case the item will be upgraded when enough upgrade components are collected.
Each component is assigned an experience multiplier. This determines the amount of experience an item gains when upgraded with that component. For instance, organic components give a higher experience multiplier than mechanical ones. You should upgrade organic components first until you reach the next level in the weapon or equipment and then switch to the mechanical upgrades.
In addition to the multiplier for experience, each item also has the maximum number of upgrades it can receive. The number of upgrades available is determined by the upgradeable rank and the type of upgrade for the upgradeable item. The highest level of upgrade is a weapon that is 10th level. However, the most common upgrades for weapons are a tier 6 weapon and an armor upgrade of tier 5.
Sets
A set is a collection of items which all have the same bonus. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least once and the upgrade will increase its guaranteed bonuses. The first time you upgrade a set piece or weapon will give it a +1 increase to its primary stat. Following upgrades, the primary stats will be increased even more (for instance the +1 bonus for 12+/13+/14+) and each time an item is upgraded, one of its stats will increase randomly.
Upgrades can also increase the damage base of a weapon. This could be crucial for certain types of weapons. However, weapons can't be upgraded to have a higher defense base than their normal base. Upgrading can be a good way to improve the value of a set and unique items, however it's important to remember that they're not necessarily superior to a high-level runeword in any build.
If you're upgrading an item with a bonus, the item can be rerolled once, and its guarantee will reset to zero. Rerolling will cost the same amount of power dice as leveling an item up, but the upgraded item will come with different extra bonuses. The NPC [Armor] Boboko can upgrade your armor in Central Flarine. To upgrade an item you will need the appropriate amount Minerals and Erons as well as a power dice of each type. These can be purchased by using Gold at the crafting table or in the Ultra Collection. The NPC will also provide a special reward for every tier that is completed of the upgrade process. The reward can be rerolled a single time with the same materials and components as the first item.
Rerolling
A player is able to play rerolling any item that they acquire in the game provided they have enough reroll tokens to do so. If an item is rerolled, it will be replaced by an equivalent level 1 version from another set. Reroll tokens can be purchased at the store for a small amount of in-game currency, but they aren't refundable. The new item upgraded will have the same bonuses of the first however, its stats will be different as well.
Players can change the identity of equipment in addition to rolling it again by interacting with an upgrader NPC. This will change the identity from an armor to a weapon or vice versa, all the while keeping its basic stats and required attributes. The change is permanent and will affect all characters who own the gear in question.
Players can also boost the level of an item equipped equipment by obtaining upgrade components and communicating with the NPC who upgrades the item. This will cost a set amount of crests and Valorstones according to the upgrade track and kind. Each step will give 5% more damage to weapons.
An upgrade can boost its power however, it can also lower its quality. Therefore, it is important to keep both in check. Some items may not be worth upgrading at all, while others will need to be upgraded to maximize their potential. It it also lists the current base ilvl.
The crest and Valorstone costs are calculated according to the item's current ilvl as well as the upgrade template. The ilvl will also be reduced by the upgrade template's lvl reduction percentage. For example, an upgrade of 8% will reduce the weapon's ilvl by 8 to 88%.
In addition to the increase in ilvl base it will also receive upgrades in other stats such as critical strike damage, PvE damage, dodge, block and parry rating. Those increases are also based on the upgrade template.
In the upgrade template, you can see the amount of damage or defense the item will suffer when it is upgraded. This is displayed below the cost and upgrade percentages. Aside from practice equipment, all other items and armor get the same stats when they are upgraded. enhancing equipment of these stats will be dictated by the market, with a rolled perfect version of a weapon or piece of armor able to command much higher trade values than non-upp'd versions. The same is true for other pieces of armor such as circlets or tiaras.
